Nursery Favorite Cut-Out Dolls
by Margaret G Hays
This delightful art is from the hand of Margaret G. Hays, who happens to be sister to Grace Drayton (Dolly Dingle.) You can see some similarity in their art styles. This darling book was done in 1913 for Donahoe Co. of Chicago. The cover art is appealing with the chubby cheeked child holding a paper doll upon which she has placed a Daisy costume she has just cut out.
There are 6 pages of 6 pretty little girls with costumes inspired by flowers: Lily of the Valley, Rose, Poppy, Forget-me-Not, Daisy, and Pansy. So this must mean that floral costumes really were a "nursery favorite." Think about all the "fancy dress" parties that were so popular in the early decades of the 20th century...many made with Dennison Crepe Paper...into flowers. What fun little girls must have had, making and wearing such costumes! So, here they are, 6 dolls to play dress-up costume parties at any time.
Finished stapled book, 8.5" x 11". All archival; 80# coverstock covers, and 32# inside pages. Stored in crystal clear seal top bag.
