Fashion Plates of the 1880s
104 Gorgeous Full-Color
Gowns on 29 Pages!
from Collection of Judy M Johnson
This book is similar to #0616 but with more fashion plates, more gowns, and printed on both sides of the pages. So it's more for referencing and viewing enjoyment than for crafting. All but one of the many plates are shown here...very small, but you get the idea.
This collection of fashion plates are from the collection of Judy M Johnson. They are selected from a group she purchased from her friend and fellow paper doll artist, Pat Stall, in the late 1980s.
The artwork appeared in fashion magazines of New York, Berlin, Paris and London or as special art print editions. Each plate represents the latest in fashion design from the major style centers of the world. They are reproduced from engravings which are hand- painted in a complex stencil and brush process, resulting in a deeply rich, elegant finished look.
Each plate has been restored, by Judy, with yellowed backgrounds brightened, and damaged areas repainted. Most originals are about 10" x 15" in size, and reduced to fit this 8.5" x 11" format. The art is useful for research, and general viewing enjoyment. They have been printed on both sides of the pages. The paper is archival 32# text weight and laser printed for color permanence which will stand up to glues and glazes.
